Best friends and
Youtube colleagues

Sam (15) and Ella (14) come from Holland. They are close friends, and together they run the successful Youtube channel Sam en Ella, which has more than 57.000 subscribers. They like posting all kinds of videos on their channel including pranks and their very own bucket list. (Sam and Ella are used to hearing the question: “Are you a couple, or brother and sister” – and their answer to that is: “No, we’re JUST friends”).

"We’re on the same page. Next, we want to jump out of a plane!"

Ella: We work with our bucket list because the viewers like it, and because it’s nice to have content planned. And, of course, for ourselves, so we can film it. Sam: We keep expanding the bucket list, because we think the same about a lot of things. We’re on the same page. Next, we really want to jump out of a plane!

Q: Who are you?

Sam: We are Ella and Sam from the Netherlands. I’m 15, and Ella is 14.
Ella: We have a YouTube channel with pranks, sketches and a bucket list. We started it a year-and-a-half ago, and now 62,000 people are following us. It’s really strange, just thinking about it.
Sam: I’m lost for words!

Q: How did your social media life begin?

Ella: I started the channel, and it took two weeks before Sam joined me.
Sam: Because I was afraid of the haters.
Ella: We began with some awfully bad videos and sketches.
Sam: Well, the same as now, but as amateurs! At first, we were afraid of the hate responses because we heard from other YouTubers that it could be rough, especially at school. And, of course, we get that too. But it’s not as bad as we thought. We just ignore it. The bigger we get, the less hate we get.

Q: What are your lives like right now?

Ella: It’s really cool to be living this kind of life. But it’s a busy life with school and everything.
Sam: Yeah, we get a lot of schoolwork. School comes first, and then YouTube!
Ella: Our friends think it’s cool. We have our normal friends, and our YouTube friends. The YouTube friends are from all over the country.
Sam: The other ones are close to us, and feel more like real friends.

Q: Sam, what inspires you about Ella?

Sam: She has all the cool ideas. She’s enthusiastic and makes up all the crazy things.

Q: Ella, what inspires you about Sam?

Ella: He’s funny. And we connect, because we have the same sense of humour. He’s sweet and just a great guy.

What does your friendship mean to you?

Ella: It’s super nice, because we get to do all the cool things together. But we’re afraid that if we get into a fight, it will be a problem. We are dependent on our friendship.
Sam: We have discussions, but no fights.
Ella: Sam doesn’t like to fight!

Q: What are your goals for the YouTube channel?

Ella: 100,000 followers!
Sam: We know how unstable this can be. We really like film and photography, but as we grow up, it needs to be more stable. But for now, it’s cool, and we’re going for 100,000.
Ella: We work with our bucket list because the viewers like it, and because it’s nice to have content planned. And, of course, for ourselves, so we can film it.

What do you think of the new LMTD collection?

Sam: It’s cool!
Ella: I like it, but not all of it. I like how it follows the trends. Because of YouTube, fashion has become much more important to me, and I’m more into it. Other YouTubers inspire me.
Sam: I feel the same way. I just look at the guys instead of the girls!
